Scottie Scheffler blasted for ‘classless’ gesture when putting green jacket on McIlroy

Scottie Scheffler has come under fire for his actions after Rory McIlroy’s victory at the Masters, with only the chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club, Fred Ridley, appearing to congratulate the new champion. The Northern Irishman completed a career grand slam at Augusta, managing to get the better of Justin Rose in a dramatic sudden-death playoff.
McIlroy went into the final day of the competition with a two-shot lead but threw that away on the first hole. The 35-year-old quickly recomposed himself and surged into a five-shot lead with eight holes to play, but he failed to hold his nerve and ultimately finished tied on 11 under par with Rose.
