Novak Djokovic defeated American Sebastian Korda 6-3, 7-6(7-4) on Thursday to set up a semi-final meeting with Grigor Dimitrov. In the process, the 24-time Grand Slam champion became the oldest player to reach the last four in a Masters 1000 event.
Novak Djokovic added another feather to his cap on Thursday after advancing to the semi-finals of the ongoing Miami Open with a 6-3, 7-6(7-4) victory over USA’s Sebastian Korda. The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who had realised his lifelong dream of winning Olympic gold in Paris last year, thus became the oldest man to reach the semi-finals of a Masters 1000 event at 37 years and 10 months old.
The match was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday but ended up getting rescheduled to Thursday after Emma Raducanu’s quarter-final match against American Jessica Pegula did not end until after 11 pm local time.
The 37-year-old Serb made a strong start against Korda, breaking early to get a first set advantage that he never let slip but Korda showed great resilience in the second set, taking the contest to a tie-break.
