Lando Norris ‘could leave McLaren’ as Zak Brown faces awkward conversation

Former FIA steward Johnny Herbert believes that Zak Brown and McLaren will eventually have to decide to favour one of their drivers this season, and that this could lead to Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri leaving the team. McLaren have thus far committed to the stance that they have ‘two number-one drivers’, refusing to back Norris over Piastri in 2024 until deep in the season.
The Australian begrudgingly played a support role during the latter stages of the year, but the scoreboards have since been reset, and both stars are on equal footing. In 2025, things are not working out quite as well for Norris. The Brit has struggled since winning the season opener in Australia, and Piastri has won three of the last four Grands Prix, putting him 10 points clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings.
