Field for world’s greatest steeplechase will be declared this morning

The world’s greatest steeplechase is almost upon us, with the 2025 Grand National set to take place this weekend at Aintree. There have been 57 entries and the maximum field of 34 will be confirmed this morning with the declarations, along with four reserves. The field is headed by 2024 winner I Am Maximus, who would become the first horse to carry top weight to victory since Red Rum in the 1970s.

The Willie Mullins-trained horse heads the market as owner JP McManus seeks a record fourth victory in the race. Iroko and Perceval Legallois are also well-fancied for Saturday’s feature race, along with Cheltenham Festival winner Stumptown and Vanillier, who finished second in 2023, both trained by Gavin Cromwell.
