Explained: Why Barcelona are playing Osasuna tonight during the international break

Appeal to move fixture rejected by La Liga

Barcelona can move three points clear of Real Madrid in the La Liga title race when they play their game in hand against Osasuna tonight.

This fixture was originally scheduled for Saturday 8 March, 2025 at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium. However, the fixture was postponed minutes before kick-off due to the unfortunate death of the Catalan club’s doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia.

Both teams had actually announced their starting line-ups, and the players went in to warm up, before Barcelona declared that the game was postponed via the stadium speakers.

“FC Barcelona is deeply saddened to announce the passing of first-team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia this evening,” Barcelona said in a statement.
