Chelsea have been hit by another injury blow after Omari Kellyman was ruled out for the rest of the 2024/25 having only just recovered from a hamstring issue that his kept him out for months
Chelsea summer-signing Omari Kellyman has revealed he is out for the rest of the season after injuring his hamstring again. The attacking midfielder had only recently returned to action having been ruled out of action soon after completing a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Kellyman has yet to feature for Enzo Maresca’s first team squad and injury has confined the 18-year-old to just three Premier League 2 appearances in 2024/25. The youngster only returned to action against Norwich on Friday having last played in August.
It has been difficult for Kellyman since completing his £19million move from Aston Villa as a result. The prospect signed a six-year deal in west London and now plans to take his time to ensure a full recovery in the bid of enjoying an improved 2025/26 season.
“Beyond gutted to say that this season has come to an early end for me due to a reinjury of my hamstring, despite only just returning after having hamstring issues for a massive part of this season,” he posted on Instagram.

“24/25 has been a tough season for me mentally and physically due to injury but it’s important now that I take time to get this right and come out the other side stronger and better ready for what next season brings.”
Kellyman was included in Villa’s matchday squad on 22 occasions last term and made his senior debut in the Europa Conference League while still 17. He has also already made his Premier League bow – against Manchester City in April 2024.
After joining Chelsea, the youngster spoke of his ambitions. “I want to be successful in the Chelsea shirt; to win games and hopefully trophies. [Over time] hopefully, I can become one of the faces on the side of the stadium. I want to become a big player for this club.”
While Kellyman was unlikely to trouble first team plans, Maresca is also without a number of his stars. Cole Palmer missed the Blues’ defeat to Arsenal on Sunday after picking up an injury in training.
That has seen him undergo a scan and remain with the club instead of joining up with England. Maresca suggested that Palmer will benefit from a break.
The Italian coach has also been without forwards Marc Guiu and Nicolas Jackson, and winger Noni Madueke due to injury. The latter two players could make their return following the international break however, having been out since early February.
“He [Jackson] will be back probably after the international break,” said Maresca earlier in this month. “Him and Noni [Madueke].
“Before the international break we have two games, and finally, [the] break where we can recover the players and go for the last sprint.”
