Arsenal have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2009 after a 2-1 victory at Real Madrid. After winning the first-leg 3-0, the Gunners were expected to be under siege at the Bernabeu, but the onslaught never materialised.
It was a tale of two penalties in the first half. Bukayo Saka wasted a glorious early opportunity for Arsenal when his ‘Panenka’ was saved by Thibaut Courthois. Real were then awarded a spot kick of their own after Kylian Mbappe went down after contact from Declan Rice, but it was overruled on VAR.
